He started thinking of Clarisse because she was a small bit of happiness in Montag's old life. She was a symbol of everything good and I think the memory of Clarisse will help Montag get threw his new life.

  6. Adam-
It's the country. There's more likely to be a barn than a town. Also, I think he was imagining getting away from the city and escaping to a friendly place.

  7. Zach-
He starts thinking about Clarisse because he realizes how cool she was as a person and he misses her and he starts thinking about the burning books and Clarisse was the one who talked him almost out of being a fireman and burning books so that way I think he thinks of her because she is almost why he is where he is now.

  8. Adam- i think because like there is only really cities so if he goes out of one itll be a while until he finds another city,

I think that he starts thinking about Clarisse because it helps him get through things and try to do what she would do.

Why do you think the search went in the opposite direction?

It went the other way because they lost the scent and track of him and could not find him, so they picked a random guy to get captured.

i think he thinks about a barn because he is tired of a city life and wants to be alone where really no one can tell him what to do.

  14. Logan E-
The search went in the other way to keep the people interested into what they were watching. It was like a show for them. The entire city was watching this chase, and they didn't want to just end it when they couldn't find Guy. So they faked the rest of the search and instead took a random person out on a walk and killed him instead. It was for the amusement of the city.

  15. Do you think that Montag will live a Granger type lifestyle after the book?

  16. Zach H
I think he starts thinking about her because he loved her and it was his only wife. I think he thought he was going to die so he just thought of what was most important to him and that was her.

  17. What does the river symbolize to Montag?

    Nick-
I think that they decided to blow up the city because they had no choice.

  18. LoganE-

The search went in the opposite direction because people don't want to watch a search that takes all night because it would have taken them hours and hours. They were just putting a show on for the viewers and wanted to keep the public happy even if it means killing an innocent person.

  19. Do you believe Montag is an ignorant man playing a specific role in history or a hero? Explain your thinking.

  20. Logan-
I think maybe the reason why the search went the wrong way was because they really didn't want to catch him maybe there is a reason that they want him to stay alive for some reason.

  21. Do you think guy will be happy and start over after the book?

  22. If all of the Professors have a book in their head then what will Montag be able to put forward in order to help them rebuild the library and city?

  23. Do you think that all the other cities will be as strict on books as his former city?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Zach B-What do you think they mean when they are talking about new beginnings?

-I think by new beginnings, they mean a new life, new country, new society.

  25. Nick-

Do you think guy will be happy and start over after the book?

Yes, I think that he will try to start over and make a new happier life.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Is Montag's story a hero's journey?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Zach -
They have ways to help him memorize more books and pass the information on to other generations. They have all memorized some books so eventually they can rebuild society.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nickc-

I don't think hes completely happy because of what happened to Clarisse, Faber, and Mildred, but is also relieved that now no one is after him.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Nick-
I do think that Guy will start over after the book because that is all he has left in his life he needs something to keep him going.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nick
I think that Guy now knows that there is good in the world and being with all of these men that agree the society needs to change and books should not be outlawed.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why did Granger think that one day there will be another "dark age" that they will have to go through all over again?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Zach B-
He said he DID have a book in his head though. The Book of Ecclesiastes. So he could contribute in a way, such as the others could with having a book memorized in their head.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Nick
Do you think guy will be happy and start over after the book?
I think Guy will find happiness living in a world with no laws against having books and nobody looking for him. I also think that Mildred was a big reason for his unhappiness, so escaping her may also make his life better.

    ReplyDelete
  34. JD- I do think it is because eventually he answered the heroes call to heroism and took that step forward to figure out whats going on in the world.

  35. JD-

    Is Montag's story a hero's journey?

I think that Montag has some of the elements that makes him a hero and i think that he has enough of the traits to make him a hero.

Do you think guy will be happy and start over after the book
i think Guy will start a new life and be happy

  37. JD-
I think that in some way that Montag has a hero's journey in his life because of all the things he has been through.

  38. Why does this book never speak of parenting? Why are there no children?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Do you believe Montag is an ignorant man playing a specific role in history or a hero? Explain your thinking.

Responding to my own question I believe Montag could be described as both a chess piece in the game of society but also as a hero. A chess piece because information has been pumping through him since the start of the book and you never see the thoughts of his own. Clarisse and Faber tell him that the society he lives in is all wrong. Corruption wreaks from the city and as soon as he listens he responds, gradually. Montag could also be considered a hero because of his acts of courage and bravery. Montag rebels against his society who he believes is as bad as the devil. With the help of Faber, Montag attempts to spread the word of books and free his city of the chains of censorship.

I think that granger has been through on dark age and he fleas that it is not over and another is coming.

-Do you think guy will be happy and start over after the book?

Yes I think guy wants to make a change in his life, and stop making such a big deal about the books. I think he will try to start over so he will have a much happier life.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Adam-

Why does this book never speak of parenting? Why are there no children?

In one short part of the book it talks about children when Montag is talking to clarisse about her going to school. And clarisse is a teen.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Nick-
I think that he will become happier and he may start over and try to find someone else to spend his life with but I don't know if he will ever be totally sane. He will probably never forget what had happened just a little bit before he ran away.

  45. Adamh

There actually were children in the book such as Clarisse who was a 17 year old girl or even the kids driving the beetle chasing Momtag in the alley. THere was n o parenting, but there were kids

  46. Thomas-
Do you think that Montag will live a Granger type lifestyle after the book?

I think Montag will live like Granger after the book because his first friend after being rejected other than faber is Granger. Where else is Montag going to go though. I think Montag will read books and I think his eyes are open to see whats happening in the world now.

    ReplyDelete
  47. John N-Why does Guy say on page 155 "It's strange. I don't miss her." Why doesn't he miss her?

-I think he doesn't miss her because he feels that she betrayed him. Instead of helping him with his problem with the books, she called him in and got his house burned down.

    * I think Montag says that because he's gotten over her, and he knows that whatever he does she won't come back.

    ReplyDelete
  49. David- I believe Montag is playing a major role in history because he lead a revolt against all of society. It's like all of the 3rd world countries today because they are leading rebellions against their nation and government because they don't like what is going on. Montag didn't have a lot of support though so his story will be more impressive in their history. The only problem is that maybe no one will hear his story and it might just get thought of a betrayal of the society.

    ReplyDelete
  50. John-

Why does Guy say on page 155 "It's strange. I don't miss her." Why doesn't he miss her?

It never seemed that montag loved her and she also just ruined Montag and started this whole chase.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Yanni-
While I agree with you, I still think that Montag WILL keep on about the books. Books are his life now. He escaped death multiple times, killed his friends, and broke other numerous laws, just to keep some books alive. He has done all this, there is no way he will just "stop making such a big deal about the books."

    ReplyDelete
  52. Adam- I think they don't mention any children because this ype of society think they are to rebellious and curious so they are probably put in a facility until they grow up and get brain washed about the laws.

    ReplyDelete
  53. JD-
I think we don't know enough about Montag's past to determine if he is a hero. However he does have a mentor (Faber), he crosses the threshold (reading books) and he defeats the dragon (Beatty.)

  54. Adam -
Why does this book never speak of parenting? Why are there no children?

    My Response-
This book speaks of parenting when Mildred invites her friends over to participate in the parlor within the Montag residence. There are children but they are not in a part of the story. This passage here explains, "...said Mrs. Bowles I've had two children by Caesarian section. No use going through all that agony for a baby. The world must reproduce... I put up with them when they come home three days a month... you heave them into the 'parlor' and turn the switch. It's like washing clothes..." (Bradbury 96). No one cares for the children or even feels for them, that doesn't mean they necessarily do not exist.

  55. DO you think that Faber has been down this exact same road because he knows about the group of guys by the railroad track?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Adam--
I don't think people have the patience to have kids or even take care of them. It's an unnessesary burden when society has gone down the tube.

  57. Nick
-Do you think guy will be happy and start over after the book?

I think guy will start over because he saw the truth and understands whats happening with the world. I don't know if he will be as happy because everything was done for him and now everything isn't. His life was easy before he got involved with the books.

  58. Fire in this book started out for Montag as a pleasure but in the end he felt the fire as warmth or hurtful to people. Montag has changed a lot over this book and i think he will have a nice new start to his new life.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Adam-i dont think they talk about children in the book because they dont like them. and they feel like they are a burden so maybe they are in school learning

    ReplyDelete
  60. Zach-
I think that Faber was taken by the government and was either executed or the are just keeping him in custody so that he doesn't start getting people interested in books and that the people listen to the government.

    ReplyDelete
  61. John N-

Why does Guy say on page 155 "It's strange. I don't miss her." Why doesn't he miss her?

Guy doesn't miss her because she died for the greater good. For books and freedom. I also think that guy is over her death and accepts the fact. Guy is seeing like she did.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Adam-
I do agree that he won't just stop with all the books, but I think he finally realizes that he is not going to make much more of a change, and that he is kind of going to just settle down with books, because they are ruining his life.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Zach h-

I think Faber has been through the same thing because all the guys in the tracks were doctors, writers, and loved books. Faber also loves books and had nowhere to go besides in the country. It seems as if they are obsessed with books because they actually tried to microfilm the text which is over the top.

    ReplyDelete
  64. zach- I think faber has been there before but he decided to go back because he was afraid and i feel he wanted to go back because he still believed in society. He wanted to go help the people and do all he can

  65. Why does Granger compare mankind to the phoenix?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Zach
Faber escaped into the hills like Montag did. it said on page 159 "..Faber was out: there in the deep valleys of the country the 5am bus..."

    ReplyDelete
  67. Zach-
Faber said he would leave very quickly. I am quite sure that he escaped as well, and that Montag and Faber will meet up again. Right after Montag left Faber's house, the dog went to the house, but they concealed the trail well enough for it to lose track at the house. So Faber was in the clear, and could have simply enough walked away or driven off, as he had promised to Montag he would do.

I think the reason there are no children is because the government is somewhat threatened by the younger generation because they have new ideas and aren't as easy to "brain wash" because they are so stubborn and pose more of a threat than the people that are already being controlled. I also do no think that it would be effective to have parenting because the kids would not agree with what is going on and either rebel against there parents or run away and create even more chaos. I think the government realized this and said that no one is aloud to have kids and the people that were aloud to have kids were watched very closely. The governments worst nightmare at the time was someone like
Clarisse who was so innocent that she changed the way people thought and ended up changing the world they lived in.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Tyler D-
I agree with you that we don't know enough about his past to determine if he is a true hero, but I think he was in a way born out of a disaster. The society is somewhat of a disaster and Clarisse almost gave him new life and caused him to view life in a new way.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Zach H- I think that Faber has not been down the same road but before they banned books he knew those people and they decided to find somewhere safe to talk about books.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yanni-
That makes sense as well. He won't be crazy about keeping every one he sees, but he definitely won't lose any care and love for them. They did ruin his life, but they also renewed it. In a way, they fixed his life.

    ReplyDelete
  72. JD-
Do you think that all the other cities will be as strict on books as his former city?

I would imagine that other cities would be as strict on books as his former city because the government enforced the rule and if one firefighter was like that in this city why wouldn't there be more like Beatty in other cities. I think the cities force the rule and burn houses like this city.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Was the destruction of the city a good thing so they can have a new beginning and live peacefully?
-Yes. Because the city blew up, the only people who might have survived are Montag and the other outcasts. These people are the ones who will build the new city based on what they have learned about the last one.

What do you think they mean when they are talking about new beginnings?
-The new begging is the new city they are going to build.

Why did Granger think that one day there will be another "dark age" that they will have to go through all over again?
-The dark age is the city that was blown up. The cycle started with a city that gained power and became ignorant about things around them and eventually crashed and burned because of it.

A question I would have asked is How does the Phoenix symbolize the town?

I think the phoenix symbolizes the town because it follows the Phoenix's lifespan. The Phoenix started out young are eager to learn and gain power through out its life. But as the Phoenix gained more and more power, the more ignorant he becomes and in return the weaker he becomes. But when the Phoenix finally dies, a new wiser Phoenix emerges from its ashes. This is like the city because the new city will consists of people that lived in the old city that learned from there mistakes.
