F451 Fishbowl #3: Pages 40-63

Welcome to your third fishbowl!

At this point, you should be picking up the pace and challenging yourself a bit on the outer circle. What kind of challenges should we take on, you ask? Try these:

Challenge #1: Bring a quotation from the reading into at least one of your posts.
Challenge #2: Get into a hotseat, if only for a brief moment.
Challenge #3: Try to offer a few more comments; your typing should sound like rapid fire.

  1. Do you think that Mildred, Guy's wife, will sell out her husband? explain your thinking.

  2. do you think that claires actualy died?

  3. Do you think what it said in the book is true when Mildred said "McClellan. Run over by a car." on page 47.
Do you think that really happened or not.

  4. Do you think that Guy will stay a fireman?

  5. David--
I don't think Mildred will sell him out.
If she does, she will lose her husband and most likely the firemen will burn her house. I don't think she could do that to herself.

  6. David, I think Mildred will stay with Guy because of what we just read at the end of part one. She was about to burn the books but then she sat down and tried to understand her husband.

  7. david-

i think that she will but she wants to see what the books are about and why are they banned but after she finds out this, i think she will tell someone and get guy killed or thrown in jail.

  8. On Page 65, Montag says" Millie?" " This is your house as well as mine. I fell it's only fair that I tell you something now. I hsould have told you before, but I wasn't even admitting it to myself. I have something I want you to see, something I've put away and hid during the past year, now and again, once in a while, I didn't know why, but I did it and I never told you."

*Why do you think Montag finally tells Mildred about his...intriguing book collection?

-Yes I do think that claires actually died because not many people liked her besides guy and I think that someone killed her as if it was not an accident.

  10. David-
I don't think that Mildred will sell out Guy because she had a perfectly good chance to do it right after Guy showed her the book's.

  11. Why would they purposely kill clarrise? Couldnt they just put her in prison or something?

    ReplyDelete
  12. David H- Do you think that Mildred, Guy's wife, will sell out her husband?

Yes,I think she will because she isn't very close to him and she will probably tell Beatty about the books because she believes that the law is more important than Montag.

  13. Luc C-

I dont think that Guy will stay a fireman. He has started to think how ridiculous his job is, and he is starting to love books and he is curious about them, so he will not want to burn them anymore.

  14. Tyler D in the Inner Circle-

I do not agree with you right now about Mildred and her going to snitch on Guy. I think like guy said in the book on page 68 "We will start over from the beginning." and I think they will stick together.

  15. David H-
I don't think that Mildred will sell out Guy. I think this because she doesn't know any better than to trust him. And if she did sell him out she probably thinks that they will burn her too.

  16. On page 42 it says "her seashell was tamped in her ear again, and she was listening to far people in far places.." What do you think that the seashell means?

  17. Do you think that Guy will make a revolt against the firehouse and how would he do it?

Do you think that Mildred, Guy's wife, will sell out her husband?

-i think that she wont sell out guy because then she would lose her house, her husband and now she is a part of it to so she would also get in trouble

  19. Inner Circle-

I think that clarrise is still alive. I think she has been taken by the government for all her free thinking, and also her family left kinda quick, they were there one day and gone the next, isnt that kinda strange? Also why is it noone can get their stories straight about how clarisse died?

  20. Do you think that Guy and Mildred will find something important in these books?

  21. "It is computed that eleven thousand persons have at several times suffered death rather than submit to break their eggs at the smaller end." (Bradbury 68)

What do you all think this quote means?

I believe this quote is similar to Mildred's situation of suicide because it explains how people rather end their own lives than live in this extremely corrupt censorship government. "Breaking their eggs at the smaller end", I interpret this part of the quote as people rather go out the easy way rather than challenging their government and rising together because that could put too much of a mental and physical strain on these very average people.

  22. Inner circle-

I don't think that Clarisse died. I just think that the fireman or someone forced her away because of what her and Guy were talking about. If she did get killed, I think that it was for a reason.

  23. Luc:
I think that Guy wont stay a fireman because of his guilt of holding books in his house.

    ReplyDelete
  24. LucC-

i think that guy will not stay a fireman, because he is going to read the books and find out something. That will make him want to quit his job.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Logan- Do you think that Guy will make a revolt against the firehouse and how would he do it?

I don't think that he will revolt because he knows that would ruin his and Mildred's life.

  26. Zach B-

The seashell is a seashell shaped device that goes in ones ear and they can listen to music and radio and people talk in far off places. It is an entertainment device.

  27. I dont think Mildred will sell guy out. Because she showed that she trusts him a littled when the guy came to the door. And i think she knows that if she sells him out that her consequence for not telling sooner could put her in the position of being burned.

i think if they can understand the books then yes but if they still are trying to find out what they mean no

  29. David
    - I do not think that Mildred will sell her husband out because on page 66 Guy says to Claires about his books that he kept, "I want to look at them, at least look at them once. Then if what Captain says is true, we'll burn them together, believe, we'll burn them together." The key word to me is when he says, "together" and I think that this is a new beginning for them and that they will do it together.

  30. Logan
I think he will do something like revolting i don't know how, but if he does he will have the advantage of being a fireman so he knows all the rules and how it works.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Logan- I don't think he can make a revolt against the firehouse because one, he doesn't have enough people to join his cause and two, he won't because its basically his word against the government.

  32. David H-
"It is computed that eleven thousand persons have at several times suffered death rather than submit to break their eggs at the smaller end." (Bradbury 68)

What do you all think this quote means?

I think this quote means that eleven thousand people have at some time, considered martydom rather than take the easy way out. They would rather die for what they believe than they would give in and submit to what they see as an unjust world.

  33. logane2013-

Do you think that Guy and Mildred will find something important in these books?

I think that they will find something important but I do not know what kind of thing they will find. I think that once they find something it will end up changing society.

  34. Why do you think Beatty ignored the book when he saw it under Guy's pillow?

    ReplyDelete
  35. How is it that Mildred cannot remember when and how her and Guy met?

"We burnt thousands of books. We burnt a woman.....Said guy, "well?" questioned Mildred.... Why is it that a woman burning alive with her books doesnt even seem to touch mildred in the mind? What has society come to that its ok to burn a woman alive in her house?

  36. Do you think that Guy will find something in a book that the government is trying to hide ?

Why do you think Beatty ignored the book when he saw it under Guy's pillow?
-i think beatty ignored the book when he saw it under the pillow because he has probably done the same thing because he said every fireman has a stage and maybe he still has books.

  38. why does Mildred seem so happy after trying to kill herself?

  39. do you think that what beatty told guy that every fireman goes throw keeping a book is true or just trying to see if he has them?

  40. Alec--
I don't think that Beatty even saw the book. He might have guessed it was there, but i dont think he actually saw it.

  41. Inner Circle-

I think mildred wants that fourth tv so bad because she has become somewhat of a Robot. It seems the television has become her reality, and all of society has become more like this in the book. Ray Bradbury was not far off on this prediction, it seems peoples lives are now run by technology nowadays, i know because my brothers and moms lives are run by television, and my brother on average plays at least 20 hours of video games a week. Thats ridicluous. We need to look at this and change this or someday our society could be ruined by this.

  42. In response to everyone that has answered my question...

I believe that Mildred will sell out Guy because she hasn't had the opportunity yet in the story but when she is alone and her mind starts racing... She is mentally weak and the fear the government expresses onto their people will sink into her and devour her. Logan E says "I don't think that Mildred will sell out Guy because she had a perfectly good chance to do it right after Guy showed her the book's." But I believe this is false because Guy is in control of the situation and there is really no chance in selling him out until he leaves the house. She will report him not because she wants to, but in fear she will die and lose her house and TV's if she doesn't.

  43. Do you think Beatty saw the books, and is just trying to ignore it because Guy is his friend?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Zach K.-

I think that Mildred is trying to just put her attempted suicide behind her. I think that she is just trying to make it look like it was an accident maybe.

  45. What will happen to him if he got caught with the books?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Colton- Why does Mildred seem so happy after trying to kill herself?

She is happy because she is able to escape death. think she likes the feeling of not being able to die so she just does it a lot.

  47. Do you think Beatty will burn Montag's house down as soon as he finds out he has the books?

  48. If someone came to burn Guys books do you think that he would stay in the house like the old lady did?

    ReplyDelete
  49. JD- I do think he will because he is instructed to by the corrupt government and he has no boundaries.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Colton
    - I think that Mildred is happy after trying to kill herself is because she is happy that her and Guy are going to start over a little bit and thats why I think she seems happy.

  51. Do you think Guy will quit his job? or maybe even burn down the fire station

    ReplyDelete
  52. Zach H-
Beatty says to guy "We let the fireman keep the book for twenty-four hours. If he hasn't burned it by then, we simply come and burn it for him." (Bradbury 62)

I wonder, though, if they also burn the fireman and his house?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jd-

No i dont think he will immediately burn down his house. He is Guys friend, and like he said he will probably give him 24 hours, then he will burn down his house.

    Zach H-

I think Guy would stay with the books. He has become facinated by them, and he wont give them up. He wants to know the secret they hold, and he wont give them up till he knows it. Guy is changing, he is becoming a thinker, which is dangerous in the world he lives in.

  54. Do you think that if Beatty finds out Montag has books he will try to burn Montag with his books or will Beatty be curious too and look at the books with Montag.
