Welcome to your second-to-last fishbowl discussion! By this time, you should be doing the following:

1. Incorporating quotes into at least one of your responses, but preferrably more.

2. Responding thoroughly and frequently from the beginning of the discussion to the end.

3. Considering jumping into a hotseat.

  1. On page 122 Montag says, "Beatty wanted to die." Do you think that Captain Beatty really wanted to die?

  2. What do you think Montag will do now? Where will he go?

  3. Ethan-
No, i think she was just saying that because she was so overwhelmed. But i dont think the people in the book have ever expierenced depression, or wanting to die. so no

  4. Who were the people driving the Beetle, why were they being so careless?

  5. Do you think Guy will turn himself in and give up? Or keep running?

  6. Ethan-
No I do not think that Beatty wanted to die because he liked his job he followed orders, and he was trying to be nice to Guy at first and tried to help him so no I do not think that he wanted to die.

  7. every fireman went through a phase of wanting to learn about books, but they returned to the fire house where montague tried to rebel.

  8. Logan- I think he will find a safe spot to live for a while and i think he will have people that help him and he might find a homeless shelter on the outskirts of town.

  9. Nick-
I think that Guy will keep running because he is still interested in the books and he likes his life and books are kind of what he lives for now.

  10. Ethan-
I don't think that Beatty really "wanted" to die, he was probably just so sure that Montag wouldn't do anything to him that he didn't defend himself. Montag was thinking about this in his head, and when he came up with the thought the Beatty wanted to die, it was probably just a way for him to keep his sanity and think of himself as a murderer.

    ReplyDelete
  11. nick- i think he will keep running and find a way out because now he is in it so he needs to keep wiith it.

  12. Ethan-
I think what Montag meant was that Beatty was so caught up in ridiculing Montag and in my opinion being a hypocrite that in Montag's mind Beatty needed to die.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Logan,
I think that Montag will just keep running until he out runs the mechanical dog and everyone that is looking for him. Plus he will stop running until he finds a group of people that he thinks he belongs with.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Nickc--
I think montag will not give up. I think he would rather die for his books than give in. Kind of like the woman who burned herself.

  15. Inner Circle-
With the question of how do fireman know quotes so well its because every day they are around books and they have at least look at them. Also Beatty just throws some books away so maybe he goes back and and grabs them again I do not think that they throw them away they keep them and read them.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I think all the firemen deep down regret about burning books because they are aware of how important it is and how people can learn from it.

    ReplyDelete
  17. When Montag found out it was his house that they were supposed to burn down. How do you think that Montag felt knowing all that he had worked for was going to be destroyed?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Eduardo,
I also had that same question. But later on in the book it says that teenagers were driving the car. But, do you think that the teenagers driving the car killed Clarisse because they tried to kill Guy?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Nick- I think that Montag will turn himself in because all of the pressure will get to him and he will just collapse inside himself.

    ReplyDelete
  20. no, i dont think guy will turn himself in and give up. He is determined to cause change. so i dont think he will give in that easy. I think he would at least die first

    ReplyDelete
  21. What is Montag going to do were will he go will he find a place to live how will his life be when he leaves?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Eduardo-
I completely agree. You can tell that all of them have at least read a few books. They do have some regret, yet they probably don't understand this emotion, and therefore simply continue doing what they were told to do.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Do you think that Guy was surprised to see himself on tv?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Nickc-

I think that Guy is just going to keep running because it could be deadly if he turns himself in. They would set him on fire and burn him alive. He's already running so he should just keep going.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I also Believe that all the fireman regret burning down the books. Because i think alot of them want to know what is in the books,

    ReplyDelete
  26. would this have all happened if he haven't met clarisse?

  27. ZachB.
Montag was somewhat grateful to burn down his house. It seems that he didn't have many happy memories there. He was doing it contemptuously, because of all the things in his life that didn't work out. Like mildred.

*I think he feels like anyone would feel having to burn their own house down. But I think he feels betrayed, sad, angry and maybe angry at himself for collecting books.

  29. Nick
I think Guy will keep going and not quit because he knows that if he gives up his cause might die.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Logan-
I think that Montag will keep running he might find a place for a little then move then find another place then move again and keep doing that just so no one finds him. I also think that his life will be a lot different because event though he has his books he still doesn't have family or anything with him and it will be tough for him to get a job and hold one down if he keeps moving.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nickc- Do you think Guy will turn himself in and give up? Or keep running?
I think that Guy will keep running because he doesn't want to give up that easily and he wants to make a change in the society. Also I think he cares about all of books to much to just turn himself in.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Will Montag ever be accepted in this society again or will he never come back.

    Nick-
I think that Guy will not turn himself in he does not want to live his life with nothing he can live with books and start something that may destroy the government.

  33. Inner circle question-

If no one is allowed to have books, how is it that they can recite the books so well?

    My Response-

The firemen are around books all the time. They can get quite curious to know why they are burning written literature. Every fireman has looked through or have even owned a book so it is no mystery how Beatty can recite an abundant of lines from countless novels. I believe Beatty is a hypocrite because he is riding Montag to turn the books in or dispose of them. Beatty recites meaningful quotes all of the time, I believe he owns plenty of books. The mistake Montag made was letting people know for a fact he owns books which Beatty explains, "...Her friends turned in an alarm earlier that I let ride. One way or the other, you'd have got it. It was pretty silly, quoting poetry around free and easy like that." (Bradbury 117). Beatty can recite lines because he owns books, he just does not let anyone know it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. zach h- I do think if guy hadn't meet Clarisse he wouldn't be rebelling like this he was a little curious already but she kinda unwrapped it all for him to look at.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Beatty knew that if Guy drove the car to his own house he would figure out it is his street and try to escape

    ReplyDelete
  36. Gabe-
I think he was at first. Like he was when his house was to be burnt down. They have said repeatedly through out the book, that this always happens to someone else, never to ME. But when it does, the people aren't ready for it and usually end up quite badly. Montag ended up burning his own house and killing his fellow Firemen, then was on the run from the police. He might have been a little surprised to himself on tv because of it, yet then he realized that that is probably a threat and it would quite possibly lead to his death. Also, I don't think that seeing yourself on tv would be as surprising as you actually killing people that you've known your entire life.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Nick
I think that Montag will keep running and try to make a stand for what he believes in because he hasn't ever been able to do that in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Logan E

I think that Montag is now scared out of his mind and has no idea what he is going to do or where he is going to go. When a little kid runs away they don't know where they are going to go because they are scared so I think that Montag is the same way right now.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Gabe,
I don't think that Guy was surprised to see himself on t.v. because he knew what he did and I think he knew he was going to be a wanted man because he burned Captain Beatty and burned the mechanical hound.

I think guy will go to whats most important to him.
I think its his wife. Evan though what she did to him wasn't cool i think hell go back

  41. Do you think that Guy killed Beatty out of anger, becuase of what happend to his house and him getting arrested.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Would montag start collecting books again after running away?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Is killing Beatty and the other firemen a good solution to Montag's problem?

    ReplyDelete
  44. After knowing Clarisse died, having his house burned down, and wife run away, Why does Montag still want to live and find a safe spot? What is allowing him to keep his goal of saving books?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Zach H- None of this would have happened if they hadn't taken Clarrise. If they didn't take Clarrise then Montag would have just kept talking to her and learning about the little things in life. Since they took he he started to question everything. So if he had never met Clarrise or the woman that burned with her house, he would have been just living his normal day to day life.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Zach h- would this have all happened if he haven't met clarisse?

In my opinion none of this would have happened if he never met Clarrise because she was the one who changed his look on books and the government. She was the one who originally got Montag to rebel and start having interest in books. I think if he had never met her he would still just be an average firemen that just is fascinated about burning books for a living.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Gabe-
Yes, I do. Montag killed Beatty out of rage, he couldn't stand it anymore. He was frustrated about having to burn all those books, and Beatty was bullying him enough to bring him to murder. This kind of stuff has happened elsewhere, as well, in real life. School shootings happen for the exact same reason.

    ReplyDelete
  48. John-
I do think that Montag will still collect books when he leaves because what else will he have if he wants something to do all he will have is books.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Nick C-

Do you think Guy will turn himself in and give up? Or keep running?

    My Response-

Guy has become a fighter now. He will not stop his conquest because he has put everything at stake and he has lost so much already. I personally believe Montag will continue to run. Momentum has been built throughout the book and the pace has increased by Montag and he cannot slow down. The story has progressed and Guy realizes he cannot give up now. Montag will run until he is safe and then he will go on from there.

    ReplyDelete
  50. John-
Montag already has some books with him so if he keeps running he might not have time to find another book but I think that he will try to pick up some more important books along the way. But if he gets a chance to get a book I think that ya he will take it but he will also need someway to hide the books as he keeps collecting.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I personally think that Guy killing Beatty was murder, but it was the right thing to do at that moment because Beatty was getting too suspicious and might have burned Guy. Guy was not only looking out for himself, but also for Faber. Beatty was being too much of a threat for Montag to just let loose.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Logan-
I think Montag just wants to see what else he can learn from the books. Even though his wife is dead, he still might want to try to make a change.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Zach H
I think Guy would never have had the motivation to take a stand and break away from his life as a fireman and if he had not met Clarisse.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Does Beatty burning to death show anymore significance to fire in the story?

    ReplyDelete
  55. Do you think Guy will keep fighting and killing if he has to to change the society?

    ReplyDelete
  56. john- I do think he will get more into books he will want to get more knowledge and learn more about what it was like before communism.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Tristin-
His wife isn't dead, where did you get that from? She got into a taxi and was driven away, probably to a nearby hotel. She isn't dead.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I believe that when Montag killed Beatty out of self define, but it was Beatty that wanted to die. In the firehouse and at Montags' house I thought that Beatty wanted to commit suicide through making Montag torch his own house and by Montag killing him then he was just helping Beatty finish the job that he had put himself up to.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Zach h-

would this have all happened if he haven't met clarisse?

    My Response-

Clarisse played a vital role in Montag's rebellion. Clarisse is who flicked a switch in Guy's brain to begin questioning everything he knows, or at least he thought he knew. Other events and ideas also had to take place such as opening a book.

  62. David said, "The firemen are around books all the time. They can get quite curious to know why they are burning written literature. I agree with what David had to see because when Montag took the book from the ladies burning house, I think that all of the firemen in the house have at least done that once. Also, when the firemen get "sick," it's because they have a book and they don't want anybody to know anything about it. Going back to Captain Beatty. I agree 100% to what David said about Beatty. Throughout the whole book, Beatty has been reciting things from books and when he had the mock conversation between Beatty and Guy, he used at least 5 quotes from books. So I think that Captain Beatty has books and when he just through Guy's book in the trash, I think that he takes those books out of the trash and that is why he know so many quotes.

  63. LoganL-After knowing Clarisse died, having his house burned down, and wife run away, Why does Montag still want to live and find a safe spot? What is allowing him to keep his goal of saving books?

I think that hope of living in a better world because of the books is what keeps Montag from straying and also the fact that there might be more people like him who question the ideas of the government.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Nick c- I do think guy will keep on fighting if he has to change society i think he will stand up to the government and say this life is messed up.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Do you think Guy will take over Beaty's spot at the firehouse and if he does do you think that he will abuse his power in doing so?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Do you think Montag represents or symbolizes someone in history from a different society? If so, who and how?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Nick-
I think that Guy will keep fighting to keep books but i don't think that he will kill anybody more because there is no use in killing him. But ya he will keep fighting to keep books like Faber kind of he will keep his books even if they are not wanted by the government.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Eduardo,
I don't think that Guy will get caught, because we still have to remember that there is a war going on. So I think that the war is going to play a big role in the end of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I think guy will do anything to change the society. HE seems like he feels strong about his views on this. He wants to take over the government and rebel against them. IF he needs to kill people in order to get his point across then i think he will.

    ReplyDelete
  70. do you think it is ironic that Beaty died from being burned to death?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Nick
I think that he will go as far as he needs until he will not be able to do anything anymore. Montag is on a revenge path and he is not afraid to stay on it until the end.

    ReplyDelete
  72. If Montag is caught with his books while he is running, do you think he would want to be burned with his books to prove a point like the old lady?

    ReplyDelete
  73. Is Clarrisse really dead? Did they ever clarify that she was killed?

    ReplyDelete
  74. Lane--
I think it's somewhat ironic that Beatty was burned to death. That was his life's work, and it turned on him. Maybe that was the way he wanted to die.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Colton-Do you guys think eveything was Guy's fault and he regrets even trying to change peoples minds to like books?

I think that not everything is his fault and that it is human to question the ideas of authority and he just wanted to explain to people that the way they are living is a false way to live.

    ReplyDelete
  76. John,
I don't know if Clarisse is really dead, because they never mention in in the book. In my opinion, I think that she is dead because if she was alive, I would think that they would refer to it.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Luc-
I don't think that he will just be "caught" and then they will take his books and burn them. He has committed murder and and is on the run from police helicopters. I HIGHLY doubt that he would be ok from this, if anything they would shoot and kill him on sight.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Colton-

I don't think guy regrets everything he did, because either way he is still sending out a message to people and he will try to make a change.

  79. Make Up Blog post-

Since they took he he started to question everything. So if he had never met Clarrise or the woman that burned with her house, he would have been just living his normal day to day life.

Jd i would have to disagree with your thought. Clarisse simply was opening his mind to question the society, not just teaching him the little things. When she was still around you could tell Guy was changing from when we first met him in the beginning of the book where he was dry and boring like everyone else, to where he grew an actual mind and started to realize all that was wrong in the world, and he should owe that all to clarisse. Granted, the burning lady was the incident that sent him over the edge to rebel, clarisse was his incubator for all this.

This was one of my questions-

Does Montag Burning down his own house symbolize something? does it realease his anger? Does he burn who he usted to be and become a real person finally and not a robot like everyone else in the present society?

I think it does symbolize. It is a symbol of the end of the fireman robot Guy Montag, and the beginnnig of the new Guy Montag, the one society was trying to hide from himself. He is turning into a real human being, realizing that his whole world is insane and quite frankly full of idiots. He is growing a concious, and gaining intelligence. Guy is becoming exactly what the govenment and all the firemen who are burning books dont want him to become, self aware, and HUMAN. He is finally seeing all the wrong in the world, and most inportantly, questioning why it has become that way. He reminds me of clarisse, who strangely disapeared, and i also think beatty noticed this and that is partly why he played those mind games with him.
