  1. -Inner Circle: Do you think that the old lady was trying to make a point?

-Yes, I think she was trying to make a point. I think she wanted to show everyone that books are important to society. She would rather die than have her books taken away.

There is a possibility that Guy would cheat on his wife with Clarisse because he has some feelings towards Clarisse that he does not have with MIldred.

  7. nick- no i dont think hell have a affair with her because in this world i think no one thinks about breaking loyalty.

  8. Why, does the book that Stoneman and Black take out say Benjamin Franklin was the first fireman? Why would this society want people to believe books have been illegal since 1790?

He took the book from the old woman because he was curious of the books. His living is to burn books but that makes him curious. What is he burning? Why is he burning it? He must be curious of what he is burning.

  10. Nick C- Do you think Guy will have an affair with Clarisse?

I don't think they will have an affair. I think Clarisse is a symbol for what is good and because of that I don't think Guy will have an affair with her.

I do not think that guy will have an affair with Clarisse but i do think that if he had the opportunity he would try to make that happen.

  12. Would you consider Guy a hypocrite since he secretly has books?

  13. I agree with Greg when he said that he will not have an affair with Clarisse, because know one thinks about that in this world, and he still loves his wife.

I agree with alec. She is realizing that you cant burn all the books in the world. She is making a statement that their society has turned out awful. She died standing up for something. She didnt want to die but she tried to make a point and turn things around for the better of everyone by trying to make a point.

I agree with you that Clarisse symbolizes good. I also think that Guy symbolizes the weakness of society, and while I don't think they will have an affair, I think Clarisse will teach Guy how to be good.

  17. What happens if someone got caught with books in their house, like Clarisse.

  18. Nick-

Clarisse is seventeen and Montag's wife it thirty so we can infer Montag must be around thirty. I dont think he would have an affair because of the age difference and how Clarisse says Montag reminds he of a father.

This society would want people to believe books have been illegal since 1790 to brainwash people and hide the truth. If our great leaders were burning books than it shows people that its okay to burn books. Books are hiding truth that the government doesn't want other people to know. The government is making people hallow and denying there right to ideas and truth.

    ReplyDelete
  20. What do you think the rules meant?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Logan-

I think that the government made up that book to give them a false history and to try and hide what firemen really used to be. I believe totally that they want them to believe that books have been banned since the creation of America because it makes it easier to control the people with books if they think that they are that bad that the books have been banned since the founding of America, and having books is unpatriotic and treason.

  22. colton- i think that they would be killed or just the books burned and have the people leave town.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I think the books would just be burned also.

  24. Do yo think Montague will rebel against society and try to persuade people to think for themselves?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Do you think all books are illegal? Because the firemen have the rule book that they take out on page 34.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Colton-
I think that they would do as they have been commanded and would burn down the house with or without the people in side the house.

    Me....

I would not consider Guy to be a hypocrite for harboring books discreetly because he is too afraid of what society will make of him at this point in time. Guy is starting up a break in the chain cycle which has oppressed this ignorant society for what seems to be an eternity. I think Guy needs to win more people over before he can let people know of his secret of hiding books. Guy is afraid someone might sell him out and that society will mob him and nothing will ever change.

  28. Do you think that this is the first time he has taken a book and brought it back to his house?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Zach B-

The rules are there to keep the firemen from actually looking at the books because they are dealing with them so much. They just want them to get there quickly, burn the books and leave without having the chance to actually pick one up. But that changes when they go to the old ladies house and Guy reads that line from the book. It is easy to see how much one line has an effect on one man, and for the government that is very dangerous if they are trying to keep control on the population.

Do you think that the old lady was trying to make a point?

I think the old lady was trying to make a point and stand up for whats right. She would rather die for knowledge and freedom because taking away books is taking away freedom. Freedom of knowledge because knowledge determines your value. The old lady didn't want to live in suppression.

i think that they would warn her to get rid of all of them but they mite kill her or put her in jail for life.

  33. Why do you think the books are illegal in the first place? why has the government banned all the books?

  34. Are their other people like Montague and Clarisse in this world that are starting to question their society?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Colton-
I think Montag will begin to question society more and may try to start an uprising

  36. Is Guy Montag an average ignorant man similar to everyone else in his communistic society or does he have some other quality that seperates him from the others?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Do you think the man on the cover of the book is Montag? What does this illustration symbolize?

    ReplyDelete
  38. -Ty

Yes, I think it's the only time he had done this because he seems to be making up all the things he has done. When Clarisse asked Montag if he was happy, made him think about what he was doing and be deeper.

    ReplyDelete
  39. nick- i do think society is getting more curious about books and they want to learn and get better knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Kiely-

I think there illegal because they dont want any history or any different ideas of society in their society to change. They think their society is perfect and dont want to be told how to do it or have people find out different ways to have it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Looking at the bigger picture, what does the scene in the book symbolize in which Montag begins hiding the book?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't think he enjoys burning books now because he was brought up in a world where books were seen as evil, but once asking questions he realizes that he doesn't even know why books are evil .

Would you consider Guy a hypocrite since he secretly has books?
I do think that this is a little bit hypocritical because he has seemed happy about burning books before, and he is now using his position as a fireman and cheating the law.

  44. David H-

I think guy is not an average man. He finally has opened his eyes to how crazy his world is. He is starting to think like Clarisse, and not many people in the book world are doing that, and the only ones that are are being killed in fires for having books. Guy has become intelligent, and curious, and therefore Human again.

  45. -DavidH-Is Guy Montag an average ignorant man similar to everyone else in his communistic society or does he have some other quality that seperates him from the others?

    * I think Montag is different from the society. He tries to do good by doing what he is told; burning books. But then Clarisse comes and influences his view on society.

Would you consider Guy a hypocrite since he secretly has books?

I would consider Guy a hypocrite because why would you burn other peoples beloved books, when you have books? It's only fair to burn your own books as well.

  47. On page 37, it says "His hand had done it all, his hand, with a brain of its own, with a consious, and curiosity in each trembling finger, had turned theif."
At this point you could tell Montag knew he was doing something wrong.

  48. I think that Guy is Hypoctite for hiding all the books from the houses that he had burned down. But i believe he di this because he was curious and was never able to tell how he felt about what he was doing. Guy doesnt seem like he even likes his job because if he keep all the books he must be wanting to stop the buring of the books. Guy doesnt seem very happy with his life and everything that he has done. I probably wishes that life was how it use to be where people didnt get in trouble for having books. As this book goes on i think that more people will start to take a stand for once and show other people about books and show everyone all the books that they have hidden.
