ReplyDeleteI think Amir was feeling maybe a little guilty while waiting for Sohrab in the ICU because he told Sohrab that he was going to have to go back to the orphanage for a little while.

ReplyDeleteI do like the ending of the book, actually. It shows the beginning of a new hope. They finally have a good place to live at, and Sohrab has new parents. Everything starts looking up from this point, even if the book doesn't go into it that much.
I think Soraya will try to comfort Sohrab. I think that she won't do much but help him heal and comfort him.

ReplyDeleteI agree with you Sorhab did not want to go to the orphanage and that is why he did what he did in the bathroom. All he wanted to do was go to America not go back to the place that he had a horrible life.

ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you. The ending is not depressing; it shows how they're lives will get better. It's like what he said in the book, you have to wait for all the snowflakes to melt. It is like this. Their lives aren't perfect, but they are getting better.
I thought the ending of the book was really good. It left the reader to give the rest of the story its own ending, and it's not depressing, because it leaves us when Amir is finally happy and Sorhab begins to smile again, so it seems there is a sense of hope, and it also seems Amir is finally rid of his demons from the alley.

AdamHi- Sohrab has lived with Amir for almost a year before they fly the kite. I think that if he actually talked then it would have ended better but the ending was more about Amir than Sohrab.

I know that he doesn't feel sorry for watching Hassan get rapped, because Assef beat him up and Amir thinks he got what he deserved. I dont think that Sohrab would want to go back to his home because of all the bad things that have happened like the orphanage and other things.

I think Amir is going to tell her what happened in their house and I think Sonraya is going to be angry because they have been married for many years and she told Amir about her past and she might feel betrayed that he didn't tell her about his past when she told him about hers.

ReplyDeleteI think the scenes are related by how at first, it's Hassan chasing the kite with Amir flying it. Then Amir is fkying the kite for Hassan'a son, Sohrab. He says, "For you, a thousand times over!" the same way Hassan did so long ago.

I think that Sorab kind of thinks that Amor is a hero bt still is having a hard time trusting him because Amir wanted to put Sohrab into an orphanage until he found a way to get him back to America, and Sohrab was upset at that because Amir had promised him he wouldn't go back to one of those places and by doing that Amir broke his promise

ReplyDeleteI think that Sorhab is grateful for all that Amir has done, but Amir cannot give him what he wants most, his old life back, and also Amir let him down when he said that he would have to put him back in an orphanage, and after they got to the US, I don't think that Sorhab has forgiven him, so Amir is not really his hero, he is just a great uncle. But i think that years later Sorhab will forgive Amir and he will become his hero.

ReplyDeleteBut I still believe it was a good ending. Not everything was wrapped up and it leaves the reader to his own conclusion, but you can infer that things get better. If Sohrab is smiling again, he will probably start to talk again soon. Eventually, things will work out all right. While I do agree with you that if they apologized their lives could have gotten better sooner, I don't think it's a let down or depressing at all.

Yanni- Sohrab probably still doesn't trust Amir as much. When they are back in America, Sohrab is quiet and distant for so long. This shows me that he doesn't want to be with Amir and Soraya.

ReplyDeleteI think people will get used to Sohrab being a Hazara. They might be crude to him at first, yet they will realize there is nothing wrong with him and eventually will treat him like any other child.
I don't think that Amir should have even taken sohrab home if sohrab is going to treat Amir like this. Amir was nice enough to bring him into his home.

ReplyDeleteYes I do think that a lot of people will be scarred that Amir brought home a "Hazara Boy" because it just was nine eleven so a lot of people may feel fear if they live near him or even in the same town as him so yes I do think that people will not be happy.
I also think at the end of the book how amir is the one who is flying the kite for sohrab. This relates to the beginning of the book of where hassan flys the kite

ReplyDeleteI think that the end of the book in the last couple of chapters, to mean the symbolic reasoning is the hero's journey and that is the crossing back over the threshold. this was the thing that he and Baba had that brought them together. i also agree with Logan L. and what he just said about Amirs childhood and how back in his childhood that is when Amir thought everything was getting better.

When Amir began laughing and laughing I think Amir was finally at peace with everything and could let his sins from the past go. I think Amir has made up for his past as well because he risked his life for Sohrab and brought Sohrab back to America so he could live a better life.

Yannik in the book on page 360 you can tell that the general does not like Amir adopting the "hazara boy" but Amirs sticks up for Soharb.
I agree with Clinton, It seems as if Amir and Sohrab are building a relationship similar to what Hassan had with him. I thoufht the ending was great.

ReplyDeleteI don't exactly agree with you. He brought Sohrab home for good reasons, and I doubt he knew Sohrab would stay so distant and quiet. Sohrab is depressed, his parents were killed, he was abused in an orphanage, and he has almost died quite a few times. How would you react to this? Yet they are starting to bond, as shown when Amir ran the kites with Sohrab in the last chapter. Some time, Sohrab will be friendly to Amir, and they will truly be like a father to a son.
Do you think that when Amir tells the genral to never call Sorhab a "Hazara boy" Amir is trying make sure no ones mean to him like they were to hassan?

That quote is very important because he said it to a general that a lot of people know. If Amir shows that he isn't afraid to a powerful person, people won't ask about Sohrab or wonder why they have him.

ReplyDeleteI don't think he was embarrassed at this point, because he has grown a lot since the beggining of the book, and he has finally gained courage and strength to tell everyone the truth. And people needed to know the truth, and even though it made Baba look bad, he just had to come out and say it at some point.
In the hospital when amir uses a piece of paper to pray and it says he hadnt prayed in fifteen years, do you think he didnt pray for so long because he lost faith or he just didnt have anything to pray for?

Amir is being heroic when he sticks up for his father, Hassan, and Sohrab because he tells the general to tell everyone the truth and to accept them for who they are. Amir says to the general that Sohrab is staying and I think Amir will always take care of Sohrab.
