I think Rahim lied to Amir because Rahim wants Amir to take Sohrab back to America to have a better life because Afghanistan is no place to raise a child and that Sohrab would have a much better and more successful life.
Rahim Khan is not like that, so i would have to disagree with you on that, because he didnt try and just put his problems on Amir, he wanted Amir to face his demons, his inner struggle, and come out good again. He was trying to do a good thing.
Kiely- Amir getting the messed up lip is kind of ironic because Hassan had that growing up and Amir always thought that he was so much better than Hassan. But now he is almost the same.
Logan, Sohrab is similar to Hassan in the fight scene, because Sohrab pulled out his slingshot in shot Assef in the eye like Hassan said he was going to do.
Logan- How is Sohrab similar to Hassan during the fight scene?
Sohrab and Hassan are similar during the fight scene because earlier in the story, on page 42 on chapter 5 Hassan has his slingshot out protecting Amir and standing up to Assef like his son did later on in the story. Sohrab is very much alike his father, Hassan. Sohrab sticks up for Amir and shows his courage.
Ty B- I think that now Amir feels good with himself because he is redeeming himself. He is doing good things that kind of make up for what he did. So now he feels better with himself
Sohrab is like hassan be cause he stuck up for amir. He stood up to assef like hassan did and he saved amirs life. Hassan and sohrab are loyal friends to amire. NO matter bad the situation.
This is a new Amir. He has been changed by his journey back to Afghanistan, and he has become a new person, a good person, and even though he knows he might be killed or hurt in a worse way, he decides to help, so he does good, to try and redeem himself for all the bad he has done.
I believe Rahim lied to Amir for Amir's greater good. If he told Amir that he knew he watched Hassan get raped then Amir would probably go through more guilt and might kill himself or he might not want to go rescue Sohrab.
I do not think that Sohrab was like Hassan in the fight scene. I think he was like Amir because he sat and watched Amir get beat up but in that same sense, I believe that Sohrab was like Hassan, brave for standing up to Assef by shooting him in the eye with his slingshot.
To reply to the inner circle when david said he was hit clean down the lip. I think this reminds Amir of Hassans cleft lip and whenever he looks at that scar it will remind him of his friend hassan and what he did to him.
Zach- In chapter 22 when do you feel that Amir has no hope left?
On page 289 I feel that Amir has no hope left when he starts laughing. Amir just keeps laughing and laughing and Assef gets madder and madder by the moment. Amir finally feels at peace after all those years. Amir feels healed and has no hope left because he feels like everything is over and that he can finally be in peace.
I think that his wife would look at him as a better man, a man who has done an incredible deed, because she knows his story now, and what he had to do to be good again, and i think she doesnt care what he looks like, because she loves him.
Logan-I do think sohrab did somewere along the line figure out that Amir just watched and didnt do anything to help but i dont know who would have told him mabye Assef.
In chapter 22 when do you feel that Amir has no hope left?
I think that he doesn't feel like there is no hope for him i think its more so a feeling of like a healing. I mean like him getting beat up by Assef is letting him let go of his past because now that Assef did some thing to both of them.
Logan, I don't think Sohrab knows his dad got raped because I'm sure that Hassan wouldn't tell anyone even his own son just because its such a sensitive subject in his life.
Kiely, I think that Amir started laughing, because he remembered all of the things that he did to Hassan and this is what he gets for it. Also, when the Taliban started beating up Assef, he started laughing also.
Lane- I think that Amir will take Sohrab back to the America because Amir needs redemption and him and his wife want a kid and Sohrab is really a half brother son so he should do it because of all of those problems being solved in one.
Kiely- I think the reason Amir was laughing when he was getting beat was because he didn't maybe feel the need to cry like maybe he knew that he diserved it after whatching Hassan get rapped too.
1. why do you think that Sohrab didn't help Amir when he was being beaten up. 2. the scene where sohrab shoots Assef in the eye with the sling shot resembles something that Hassas would of done, he stood up for what he thought was right and didn't cowar away 3. Do you think that Amir is starting to resemble Baba by being brave and strong to rescue Sohrab and bring him back to america.
I thought that this Fishbowl was very good, everyone was asking great questions and the answers were great as well. People did a great job explaining what they think about the question and explain their answer which is great. I also had a couple of questions some of them that have already been asked but here they are. What was Rahim's overall reasoning for lieing to Amir why do you think that he did this? Also what do you see in Sorhab that was very easily seen in Hassan and are they good things or bad? Also in response to Colton- Yes I do think that Amir is in a way becoming his father he has learned things from him and wants to value you that, a great example is him trying to get Sorhab to come to America it shows courage and braviness which he never had before.
Why did Rahim lie to Amir?
ReplyDeletewhat is the symbolizm behind Amir getting the hare lip?
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 22 when do you feel that Amir has no hope left?
ReplyDeleteHow is Sohrab similar to Hassan during the fight scene?
ReplyDeleteI think Amir is becomming more like Baba because Amir is trying to be a better person and he's being brave by trying to save sohrab.

i think it was to have rahim to get out and amir adopt his problems so he never had to get hassans son
Ethan,
ReplyDeleteRahim lied to Amir because he didnt think that Amir would go on the trip back to Kabul and face all of his inner demons and find the boy.
Logan
ReplyDeleteHow is Sohrab similar to Hassan during the fight scene?
-Sohrab is like Hassan in the fight scene because he shot Aseff's eye out, just like Hassan threatened to do earlier in the book.
Ethan-

he shows a lot of courage and he also takes assefs eye out like his father was going to do>
Kiely:
ReplyDeleteI think that the symbolism is that it is putting Amir at the same level that Hassan was at.
Zach K,
ReplyDeleteRahim Khan is not like that, so i would have to disagree with you on that, because he didnt try and just put his problems on Amir, he wanted Amir to face his demons, his inner struggle, and come out good again. He was trying to do a good thing.
Ethan,
ReplyDeleteI think Rahim told Amir that there were people that wanted to adopt Sohrab because he wants Amir to adopt him.
LoganL- How is Sohrab similar to Hassan during the fight scene?
ReplyDeleteSohrab is like Hassan because Hassan would have stood up for Amir in that type of situation just like Sohrab did with his slingshot.
Kiely- Amir getting the messed up lip is kind of ironic because Hassan had that growing up and Amir always thought that he was so much better than Hassan. But now he is almost the same.
ReplyDeleteLogan,
ReplyDeleteI think that Sorhab is symbolizing Hassan, he is getting his revenge almost, he is finishing what his father started all those years ago.
Logan,
ReplyDeleteSohrab is similar to Hassan in the fight scene, because Sohrab pulled out his slingshot in shot Assef in the eye like Hassan said he was going to do.
When Amir says on page 289 "for the first time since the winter of 1975, I felt at peace." what does he mean by that?
ReplyDeleteTy B,
ReplyDeleteIt means that his guilt is gone, and he finally forgives himself for what he saw and what he did all those years ago.
In chapter 22. Amir stands up for himself and his friends. How does this differ from how Amir acted when he was younger?
ReplyDeleteLogan-

alec- this is different from his child hood because amir was very mean in his childhood to Hassan but i think he has mad up for it.

ReplyDeleteDo you think Sohrab knows that Amir watched his dad get raped?
ReplyDeleteTy,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kiely, because Amir can finally forgive himself for what he saw in the alley and how he had treated Hassan.

ReplyDeleteNo i don't think he knows. But if he did know, how would he think different of Amir?
Do you think that Amir and Sohrab will go back to the states or do you think that they will stay and fight Assef and the Taliban?
ReplyDeleteLogan-I do think sohrab did somewere along the line figure out that Amir just watched and didnt do anything to help but i dont know who would have told him mabye Assef.

ReplyDeleteZack do you think that when he goes back to America how would his wife look at him and think of him?
ReplyDeletei think she will think of him more highly if he tells her what happened and what happened in his past, she will she him more of a hero.
Logan,
ReplyDeleteI don't think Sohrab knows his dad got raped because I'm sure that Hassan wouldn't tell anyone even his own son just because its such a sensitive subject in his life.
Tristin-
ReplyDeleteI think he does know because whenever Amir tries to talk to Sohrab in the hospital, Sohrab stays quite and walks away.
Kiely,
ReplyDeleteI think that Amir started laughing, because he remembered all of the things that he did to Hassan and this is what he gets for it. Also, when the Taliban started beating up Assef, he started laughing also.
Clintron,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, except for that fact that Hassan has told Rahim and Ali and most likely his wife and his mother.
Lane-
ReplyDeleteI think that Amir will take Sohrab back to the America because Amir needs redemption and him and his wife want a kid and Sohrab is really a half brother son so he should do it because of all of those problems being solved in one.
