  1. Do you guys like the ending of the book? I thought it was kind of depressing.

  2. What do you think Soraya will do when she finds out about Sorhab?

  3. I think Amir was feeling maybe a little guilty while waiting for Sohrab in the ICU because he told Sohrab that he was going to have to go back to the orphanage for a little while.

I think that the end of the book was depressing to I do not think it was very good it should be changed.

  5. JD-
I do like the ending of the book, actually. It shows the beginning of a new hope. They finally have a good place to live at, and Sohrab has new parents. Everything starts looking up from this point, even if the book doesn't go into it that much.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I think Soraya will try to comfort Sohrab. I think that she won't do much but help him heal and comfort him.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Do you think that Amir has really gotten over his past?
Or do you think his lie to sorhab has only made it seem ever present?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Do you think that Amir, Sohrab, and Soraya will stay in the U.S. together or do you think they will move somewhere else?

  9. JD,
I thought the end of the book was depressing, but I also liked how the author added in the kite running and having Amir run the kite relating it back to Hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  10. How does the ending scene with Amir flying the kite and Sohrad watching relate to the kite flying scene in chapter 7?

  11. Mike-
I agree with you Sorhab did not want to go to the orphanage and that is why he did what he did in the bathroom. All he wanted to do was go to America not go back to the place that he had a horrible life.

    ReplyDelete
  12. zach- i think Amir felt devistated that he could not find sohrab to bring him back to america

    ReplyDelete
  13. I also think the ending was depressing. It was kind of a cliffhanger but I wanted to know how Sohrab would do in America.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Inner circle: What do you think Amir is feeling when he finds out Sohrab is gone?

I think Amir is feeling sad and scared. I think he is scared because he could be kidnapped or dead. I think he is sad because it's his nephew and he had risked his life for Sohrab and now he can't find him.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jd-
I thought at the end of the book especially involving Sohrab was graphic, but at leats he ended up escaping Assef and the Taliban to a better life and a future in America.

What do you think Soraya will do when she finds out about Sorhab?

I think she will try to help him like Amir is helping him and want to adopt him and take care of him

  17. I thought the ending of the book was kinda lame and I wish it would have ended in a more exciting way because of the events that happened throughout the book.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jd-

I did not think that the end of the book was depressing because that is how Amirs childhood use to be and that is the one thing that brought him and Baba together.

  19. Kiely-
I think Amir will never truly get over his past but this whole adventure has helped him come to terms with his past. He will always be haunted by the memory of Hassan but now that he has Sorhab it makes him fell better about the past.

  20. Lane-
I totally agree with you i wish it ended with sohrab apologizing to amir and they make up and are good friends.

    ReplyDelete
  21. JD-
I also like the ending of this book because it shows hope, and i show that everything will be okay because sohrab has a new family

    ReplyDelete
  22. Do you think Sohrab thinks of Amir as a hero, or does he still not trust him?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Zach H-
I completely agree with you. The ending is not depressing; it shows how they're lives will get better. It's like what he said in the book, you have to wait for all the snowflakes to melt. It is like this. Their lives aren't perfect, but they are getting better.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I thought the ending of the book was really good. It left the reader to give the rest of the story its own ending, and it's not depressing, because it leaves us when Amir is finally happy and Sorhab begins to smile again, so it seems there is a sense of hope, and it also seems Amir is finally rid of his demons from the alley.

"I think that the end of the book was depressing to I do not think it was very good it should be changed."

Logane Why do you think the ending is bad and why do you want to change and in what ways would you change it?

    ReplyDelete
  26. AdamHi- Sohrab has lived with Amir for almost a year before they fly the kite. I think that if he actually talked then it would have ended better but the ending was more about Amir than Sohrab.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Kiely,
I don't know if Amir has really gotten over his past, because if he did I don't know if he would have lied to Sohrab. I know that he doesn't feel sorry for watching Hassan get rapped, because Assef beat him up and Amir thinks he got what he deserved. Why do you think that Amir broke his promise to Sohrab about putting him in an orphanage?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Logan-
I think that the scene with the kite running is very important it is like Amir becoming the father of Sorhab because Hassan used to be the kite runner.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Lane-

I think it is hard to say if they will stay in America. i think that Amir and Soraya will want to move back to Afghanistan if that would even be possible. I dont think that Sohrab would want to go back to his home because of all the bad things that have happened like the orphanage and other things.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yanni-
I don't think that Sohrab thinks of Amir as a hero because Sohrab said in the hospital that Amir should have left him in the tub. So I don't think that Sohrab thinks that Amir is a hero.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Inner Cirlce:
Seeing all of the scars that happened how do you think Amir will tell Sonraya what happened behind the alley?

I think Amir is going to tell her what happened in their house and I think Sonraya is going to be angry because they have been married for many years and she told Amir about her past and she might feel betrayed that he didn't tell her about his past when she told him about hers.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yanni-

I think since AMir knew his father, he is starting to build trust, but still doesn't trust him fully after Amir told Sohrab that he would have to go to an orphanage again which he promised not too.

    ReplyDelete
  33. -Yanni
I dont think Sorhab thinks of Amir as a hero but I think he trusts him a little bit more after they fly the kite together.

    ReplyDelete
  34. LoganL-
I think the scenes are related by how at first, it's Hassan chasing the kite with Amir flying it. Then Amir is fkying the kite for Hassan'a son, Sohrab. He says, "For you, a thousand times over!" the same way Hassan did so long ago.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Justin-
I think that the ending should be changed a little because it was good with the kite running but the rest was a little depressing. So you have a happy part and sad it should be all happy I think.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Yanni

Do you think Sohrab thinks of Amir as a hero, or does he still not trust him?

I think that Sorab kind of thinks that Amor is a hero bt still is having a hard time trusting him because Amir wanted to put Sohrab into an orphanage until he found a way to get him back to America, and Sohrab was upset at that because Amir had promised him he wouldn't go back to one of those places and by doing that Amir broke his promise

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yanni,

I think that Sorhab is grateful for all that Amir has done, but Amir cannot give him what he wants most, his old life back, and also Amir let him down when he said that he would have to put him back in an orphanage, and after they got to the US, I don't think that Sorhab has forgiven him, so Amir is not really his hero, he is just a great uncle. But i think that years later Sorhab will forgive Amir and he will become his hero.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Lane-

I think that they will all stay in the U.S. because their life is very good in America and Sohrab is happy and finally at peace.

    ReplyDelete
  39. JD-
But I still believe it was a good ending. Not everything was wrapped up and it leaves the reader to his own conclusion, but you can infer that things get better. If Sohrab is smiling again, he will probably start to talk again soon. Eventually, things will work out all right. While I do agree with you that if they apologized their lives could have gotten better sooner, I don't think it's a let down or depressing at all.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Do you think that some people will not be happy with Amir because he brought home a "Hazara" boy?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Why do you think sohrab wont say sorry to Amir for putting him through all that trouble and making him saty at the hospital.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Inner Cirlce:
How long do you think it will take Sohrab to forgive Amir and do you think they will every be able to form a good relationship?

I think that Amir and Sohrab's relationship will be good and I think Sohrab will forgive Amir because Amir has done so much for Sohrab, risking his life. Amir brought Sohrab to America to live a better life and I think that they will have a good relationship.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Yanni,
I agree with Luc, because Sohrab said that Amir should have left him the tub to die. Sohrab would rather die then go back to an orphanage. I think it was wrong of Amir to tell Sohrab that he was going to put him in an orphanage because he promised that he wouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yanni- Sohrab probably still doesn't trust Amir as much. When they are back in America, Sohrab is quiet and distant for so long. This shows me that he doesn't want to be with Amir and Soraya.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I personally think that the ending of the book is great because it ties in what Hassan had said to Amir, "for you, a thousand times over." and how Sorhab and Amir might share the same bond.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yanni K-
I think people will get used to Sohrab being a Hazara. They might be crude to him at first, yet they will realize there is nothing wrong with him and eventually will treat him like any other child.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I don't think that Amir should have even taken sohrab home if sohrab is going to treat Amir like this. Amir was nice enough to bring him into his home.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yanni-
Yes I do think that a lot of people will be scarred that Amir brought home a "Hazara Boy" because it just was nine eleven so a lot of people may feel fear if they live near him or even in the same town as him so yes I do think that people will not be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I also think at the end of the book how amir is the one who is flying the kite for sohrab. This relates to the beginning of the book of where hassan flys the kite

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree with Lane, because the ending of the book kind of was a little bit of a disappointment, because it was a lot less eventful then I thought it would be.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Inner Circle-

I think that the end of the book in the last couple of chapters, to mean the symbolic reasoning is the hero's journey and that is the crossing back over the threshold. this was the thing that he and Baba had that brought them together. i also agree with Logan L. and what he just said about Amirs childhood and how back in his childhood that is when Amir thought everything was getting better.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Kiely-
I think Amir did conquer his past when he was fighting Assef. When Amir began laughing and laughing I think Amir was finally at peace with everything and could let his sins from the past go. I think Amir has made up for his past as well because he risked his life for Sohrab and brought Sohrab back to America so he could live a better life.

    ReplyDelete
  53. John N-
I think that Sohrab is just quiet and distant because soraya is new to him, and having a family is a new thing to him, so he is just getting adjusted. And in time, he'll open up.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Yanni-
I think people will except Sohrab because he is with Amir. They're not in Afghanistan so I think the other Afghans in America will be more excepting.

Do you think that some people will not be happy with Amir because he brought home a "Hazara" boy?

Yannik in the book on page 360 you can tell that the general does not like Amir adopting the "hazara boy" but Amirs sticks up for Soharb.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree with Clinton, It seems as if Amir and Sohrab are building a relationship similar to what Hassan had with him. I thoufht the ending was great.

    ReplyDelete
  57. i also agree with clinton, it seems to me that amir and sihrab are getting along much better then i thought they would

    ReplyDelete
  58. Greg J-
I don't exactly agree with you. He brought Sohrab home for good reasons, and I doubt he knew Sohrab would stay so distant and quiet. Sohrab is depressed, his parents were killed, he was abused in an orphanage, and he has almost died quite a few times. How would you react to this? Yet they are starting to bond, as shown when Amir ran the kites with Sohrab in the last chapter. Some time, Sohrab will be friendly to Amir, and they will truly be like a father to a son.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Do you think that when Amir tells the genral to never call Sorhab a "Hazara boy" Amir is trying make sure no ones mean to him like they were to hassan?

    ReplyDelete
  60. He finally gained the courage to smack back to the General. Before, he would have ran away as the coward he is.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Inner circle,

I think that passage is very powerful because Amir is standing up for Sohrab and taking responsibility for him and being that father figure that Sohab needs.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Clinton-
I agree. I think Sohrab is a lot like Amir because when Amir was young he felt out of place.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Yanni- Not with the way he stood up for him to the general. "you will never again refer to him as 'Hazara boy' in my presence. He has a name and it's Sohrab." That quote is very important because he said it to a general that a lot of people know. If Amir shows that he isn't afraid to a powerful person, people won't ask about Sohrab or wonder why they have him.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Clinton-
I do think Amir is trying to protect sahrab but he is also just amking sure people know who he is and no one will make fun of him.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Inner circle and Mrs. Leclaire-

I think that in the beginning of the book I dont think that Amir would have stood up for Sohrab i think he would have just let it happen and not have said anything. i think that he is trying to follow in Baba's footsteps but he is trying to be a better father. i think through his journey he gained more courage and strength.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Clinton-
Yes I would say that he is sticking up for Sohrab right now because first it is his nephew and second because Hassan died and Amir feels this guilt towards that standing up for Sohrab is his redemption for being mean to Hassan.

  68. Do you think that Amir and Sohrab are alike in a way?

    ReplyDelete
  69. Inner Circle: Do you think Amir is embarrassed to tell people that his dad slept with the servants wife?

I don't think he was embarrassed at this point, because he has grown a lot since the beggining of the book, and he has finally gained courage and strength to tell everyone the truth. And people needed to know the truth, and even though it made Baba look bad, he just had to come out and say it at some point.

    ReplyDelete
  70. In the hospital when amir uses a piece of paper to pray and it says he hadnt prayed in fifteen years, do you think he didnt pray for so long because he lost faith or he just didnt have anything to pray for?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Do you think Amir is embarrassed that Baba slept with the servants and had a son?
I think that Amir isn't embarrassed of his father sleeping with the servants because he sticks up for his father and accepts him. Amir is being heroic when he sticks up for his father, Hassan, and Sohrab because he tells the general to tell everyone the truth and to accept them for who they are. Amir says to the general that Sohrab is staying and I think Amir will always take care of Sohrab.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Clinton-
I think Amir wants so make sure Sohrab is not called a Hazara because when he was younger he never understood the hurtfulness of being discriminated. But when he finds out Hassan was killed for being a Hazara he realizes how hurtfull it was to be called that.

    ReplyDelete
  73. John
Amir is not a coward, and hasn't been one for half of the book, he didn't have to go back and save Soharb, he didn't have to listen to kharim and he didn't have to take soharb to America, he has shown he is not a coward for awhile.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Clinton-
I think that Amir stands up for Sorhab and tell the general to not call him a Hazara because he is no longer one he is in America with Amir and so he is to called by his name. It is also a respect thing for Sorhab.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Ty-
I do think they are alike but i thnk Sohrab needs to be way nicer to Amir because Amir went through all that trouble to get him to America.

    ReplyDelete
  76. i think that Amir is a hero because he conquered his past to overcome his future.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Looking back at when Amir and Hassan were flying kites do you think it might have forshadowed when Amir and Sorhab were flying kites?

    ReplyDelete
  78. All,

Very good comments. I have a question of you, do you think that Amir was pictured as an unlovable but sympathetic hero?
