  1. Why do you think Hassan lied about stealing Amir's watch? What does this show about their relationship?

  2. In chapter 9 on page 105, Hassan is framed for stealing Amir's watch and money. Why do you think Amir wanted Hassan to leave?

  3. I think HAssan lied about it because he was afraid about it, he didnt want Amir to be mad at him, and didnt want to get in trouble with Baba and Raheem Kahn.

  4. I agree with Tommy how he said that Kamal did'nt really deserve it, but its kind of karma because now he knows how Hassan feels.

  5. What effect did Hassan and Ali moving out have on Baba and Amir in chapter 9.

  6. Adam-
It says in the book that Amir put the watch under hassans bed and he also figured out that Amir saw him in the alley getting raped so he knew Amir is was setting him up

  7. I think Hassan lied about Amir seeing what happened to somewhat protect his friend. I think Hassan knew that Amir might get in trouble for not helping

  8. John- In chapter 9 on page 105, Hassan is framed for stealing Amir's watch and money. Why do you think Amir wanted Hassan to leave?

I don't believe he wanted Hassan to leave. He was shocked when he found out the news that they were leaving. If anything, Amir wanted to frame Hassan so he could blame Amir and he would get punished. Amir feels he needs to get punished ever since he saw Hassan get raped and didn't do anything, but he is confused on how to show it.

  9. responding to Tyler's questions about Kamal being raped: I agree with Tommy S saying that nobody deserves to be raped and I think Amir has a better understanding after watch Assef rape Hassan.

  10. Do you think that the stealing of Amir's watch has anything to do with a gap being formed in their relationship?

Why did Hassan lie about the stealing of the watch?

Do you think Amir no longer likes Hassan after what happened to him?

  11. -Adam

I think that Hassan lied about stealing Amir's watch and money because he cares for Amir and doesn't want anything bad to happen to Amir. This shows that their relationship is not very good, because Amir planted the money and wants to get rid of Hassan so he can stop looking at him and stop feeling guilty about Hassan getting rappep, even though Hassan cares a lot for Amir.

Ali moving had a big effect on Amir and Baba. It says at the beginning of CH. 10 that "... our seventh servant in five years." Its kind of like they can't replace the hole left from Ali and Hassan.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Zach-
I think that it brought them back down to reality. They realized that most servants arent as good as Ali and Hassan, and that they made a mistake when they fired them.

I think Hassan moving out really hurt Amir even though he set him up and was mean to him after the rape he was just scared to face the fact that he saw his best friend get raped.

because if hassan leaves he wont have to remember what happened and he can get rid of his gilt

  17. Why doesnt Ali tell Baba about all of the things that Amir has done to Hassan and about how Hassan got raped?

  18. Tristan-
Baba and Amir didn't fire Ali and Hassan. Baba forgave them and was pleading with them to stay.

  19. When Tyler asked if Baba was brave for standing up to the soldier i think he was. He was standing up for a random woman so she wouldn't be given away for half an hour. I think that woman might have reminded him of his wife.

  20. Zach-

EVer since Ali and Hassan left they never had quality servants and had a problem trusting them.Ali and Hassan were like family which made it easier to trust them and have a relationship. Baba and Amir realized how much they truly cared for them when they left because they really did not want them to leave and Baba begged them to stay. It was a harsh way to leave.

In chapter 9 on page 105, Hassan is framed for stealing Amir's watch and money. Why do you think Amir wanted Hassan to leave?

Amir frames Hassan for a few reasons that I believe. The first reason could be so that Hassan would get so irritated by Amir that he would lash back at him but he never does. The second reason could be he can't live with the guilt any longer, everytime Amir sees Hassan, Amir re-lives the horrible memory of the cold winter evening in the dark alley. Amir did nothing to save Hassan and the guilt is eating at him.

Why doesnt Ali tell Baba about all of the things that Amir has done to Hassan and about how Hassan got raped?

well i think that is because Baba is beginning to become more in Amirs life and if he did it would destroy all that.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Adam H-
I think Baba helped the woman because it's his nature. A man who wrestles bears has little to no fear. I also think he was just angry with his whole situation. He would die for a random woman before givving her up to the Roussi.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Why do you think Baba pleaded for Hassan and Alli to stay even Hassan stole from Amir?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Adam-
I think he save her because he has a good personality. He knows that rape is bad, and unlike Amir, he is not a coward, so he helped.

  29. Yanni
Do you think that Baba only gave Amir those christmas presens because he won the kite tournament?

I think thats a good question. I don't know if there is a right or wrong answer. But I say that is a possibility because Baba mainly only started being so nice after Amir won the tournament

    ReplyDelete
  30. Zack K- In response to your answer to "Why do you think Amir wanted Hassan to leave?" you said that he could forget about him. But he does not forget about the raping because in chapter 10 on page 116 it says that he has a flashback to that scene.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Did Baba only give Amir the presents because he won the tournament?

And why did Amir consider all of his presents "Blood Money", except for the notebook that Rahim Kahn gave him?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Greg J-
Hassan never really did steal from Amir. Amir framed him because he wanted Hassan to leave because he felt guilty still. Maybe he even wanted Baba to find out he framed Hassan so he could finally be punished.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Greg-
I think that Baba loved Amir and Hassan like family, and didnt want to lose them. And even though he thinks Hassan stole from him, Baba would be willing to forgive him. And Baba knows that Ali and Hassan are great servants and they will have trouble finding more servants as good as him.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am with colton on the last comment of why Baba threw the party for his son if he won the tournament. I agree that it shows that Baba wanted to see his son do something that Baba wanted him to do or something that he would have done himself so i think he threw the party because he was proud of his son.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Greg- I think that Baba wanted them to stay so bad because Ali was not just a servant to him but he was like a brother to him. Ali has also done so much for him also.

    ReplyDelete
  36. -Sean
I don't think that Amir no longer likes Hassan because on pages 122-123 in chapter 10, Baba whispers something in Amir's ear and tells him to think of something good. The thing that Amir thought of was a time when Anir and Hassan were standing in grass and flying a kite together. So I don't think that Amir no longer likes Hassan.

  37. Logan-

Baba lost everything and had to leave his house, cars, and all his belongings he has worked for all his life. Baba was in shock and could not believe the Russians invaded them. THe destroyed their schools, homes and their people and had no choice to leave. He just did not want to leave his home, but he had to get to Pakistan so he and Amir could live

    ReplyDelete
  38. Zach when Hassan and Ali leave it really affects Baba and Amir because it is they are like family to Amir and Baba still thinks about the rape and wants to talk to Hassan about it and now he won't be able to now.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Do you think Baba knows that Hassan was raped?

I agree with you because Baba is standing up for this stranger and it actually shows that Baba is a nice guy and lives up to his reputation.

  41. Mrs. Leclaire-
I agree with what blake said that Amir is just in a wierd or tough situation and he doesn't really know how to cope with the struggle so he just has to figure out how to deal with his surroundings.

  42. Adam,
What does it show that Baba saved the young lady from getting raped by the guard on the way to Pakistan?

I think that this shows hat Baba is infact a good person. Maybe not a good father figure, but he could be a roll model.

  43. Yanni:
Winning the kite tournament is one reason why he gave him the presents. I think Baba loves Amir more and has a little bit of respect towards him since winning the tournament.

i dont think so but if amir told Baba how mad would he be and what would he do.

  45. I don't believe that Baba knows Hassan was raped because if he did he would probably know that Amir was there and saw the whole thing happen. Baba would be disguisted with his son.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yanni-
I think Amir thought all of his presents were blood money because he saw Hassan get raped and all these presents were for Hassan and Amir winning as a team and a member of the team is badly wounded.

  47. John

Do you think Baba knows that Hassan was raped?

I dont think that Baba knows that Hassan was raped because if he did I think that Baba would have done something about it and took action.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yanni- why did Amir consider all of his presents "Blood Money", except for the notebook that Rahim Kahn gave him?

I think he considers it like "blood money" because Amir don't think Baba would have given him the same gifts if he had not won. But Rahim would of given him the same gift no matter what.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Sean D-
Do you think that the stealing of Amir's watch has anything to do with a gap being formed in their relationship?

The gapped has already been formed in their relationship. The friendship and trust is broken completely, Hassan knows Amir was in the alley when Assef broke Hassan as a man. Hassan now knows though that Amir is not his friend, Amir watched him get raped and now he wants Hassan gone. Not just Hassan's and Amir's relationship, I feel like the relationship between Baba, Ali, Hassan and Amir has been tarnished completely.

I agree with you Eduardo, because they only left with 2 suitcases and had to get out of there quick so that they could live. Like you said also, everything that Baba did and built were destroyed now by the Russians.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think that if Amir had not won the contest then Baba would not have thrown a party on his birthday but because he did win then Baba wanted to show off his son as the winner of the contest. Amir feels as though he had not won the contest in chapter 7 because he let his friend get raped and during the party he put on a smile to appease Baba.
In chapter 10, what does he mean when he says he will go to hazaraji? is this why they called Hassan a hazara?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mrs. Leclaire-
I also agree with Blake and Luc that Amir is in a tough situation. Amir is so young and immature that he doesnt know really how to deal with most of the things he has had to deal with and see. So i sort of understand why Amir is doing all of these things, because he doesnt know what else to do.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Zach K-
I agree. I think if Amir told Baba then Baba would have been angry that Amir had just stood around and not tried to intervene. It would be a shame upon their family honor.

    ReplyDelete
  54. John-
No, I don't think Baba knows Hassan was raped. I don't think he would be so angry with Amir if he told him though. Baba is very forgiving, and if anything he would probably just feel dissapointed with Amir. But I also think if Baba did know, he would have made sure that Ali and Hassan didn't leave, maybe to make up for what happened and to add to their friendships.

  55. Lucc-
I think it reminded him of his wife because she was vulnerable and he was there to help that woman but he couldn't help his wife when she died in child birth. Overall he is being protective.

Do you think Baba knows that Hassan was raped?

Now that you mention it, that is a great question. I believe there may be a possibility. But I think the better question is if Ali knows. Because at the start of chapter 8 on the second page, he starts questioning Amir

    ReplyDelete
  58. Yanni-
why did Amir consider all of his presents "Blood Money", except for the notebook that Rahim Kahn gave him?

Amir considers the presents "Blood Money" because if it weren't for Baba and his status, they wouldn't have given Amir gifts. The gifts were because of Baba with the exception of the notebook that Rahim Kahn gives him, the notebook was truly for Amir. Rahim Kahn's gift had nothing to do with Baba's status among the people.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I feel that Amir set up Hassan because he felt that it would be the last thing that he could do for Hassan to get Hassan away from the place where he was raped and he did not know who it was.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I just think that he doesn't have the emotional strength to do that for Hassan and pull him out of the car. I believe that the author choose a rainy seen for this too because it shows how the emotion is within the characters in this part of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  61. -Sean
Answering your question about what does this show about Baba saving the lady from being rapped. This shows a lot about Baba, because earlier in the book, I didn't think he did anything to live up to his reputation until he stood up for this young lady because Baba is the kind of guy that will stand up for anyone in any situation, because he knows that it is wrong to do bad things to others.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yanni-
He says it is "bloody money" because the presents feel like stolen money from someone killed. He does not deserve them; he "stole" them and they are covered in the blood, or guilt, of their previous owners. He can't stand them because he knows he doesn't deserve to have them.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Responding to Mrs. Leclaire's question about the weather and how it is compared to melting silver:
I think it is a symbolism of Amir and Hassan's friendship because it used to be shinning and strong but the relationship is melting away.

    ReplyDelete
  64. with Tylers question i feel that amir is so ashamed with what he has done, the way he has treated Hassan. With him not stopping i believe he thinks Hassan will not want him to show he cares. And he is afraid to show baba that side of him.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sean D-
I think Ali does know. In chapter nine on page 106 when Ali says their leaving, "It was a protective gesture and I knew who he was protecting him from. Ali glanced my way and his cold, unforgiving look, I knew Hassan had told him."

  66. It was shocking to see that the kid who helped Assef rape Hassan ot raped later and died after he got out of the tank.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Tyler-
on page 124 is talks about how Baba is so dissapointed. I think that Amir is overreacting, yes Baba may be upset, but he still loves Amir, he always will just because its his son.

  68. eduardo-
I was also very shocked that kamals dad shot himself after finding his son dead

  69. John N's question -
Do you think Baba knows that Hassan was raped?

    Tommy H's Response -
I don't think he knows that Hassan was raped because Baba stood up for someone he didn't even know so I think Baba would have taken action.

    My thoughts -
I don't think there is enough evidence in the story to decide whether or not Baba knows that Hassan was raped or not. I think that Baba doesn't know because nothing had changed throughout the household. I agree with Tommy's comment which is why I brought it into my own comment. Baba would have taken action knowing his personality so far in the novel.
