Zach- I don't believe his life would be much different, he still has those bad memories and Baba would still die. His death might of been a little bit different, but other than that it wouldn't be much different.
-Zach H If Baba suddenly died, I think that Amir's life would be different because it would be so sudden, it would shock Amir and he would take it hard. He would take it hard because Baba was his Dad. I mean if my Dad died, my life would be totally different.
Yanni- I think Amir chooses not to share his past because Soraya was the one with a problem right now. It would seem like he ignored her and didn't care if he butted in to say oh I have a problem thats more important than yours.
I think his dad is more proud of him graduating high school because Baba has accepted that Amir is never going to be just like him and he is proud of his son for accomplishing something that he wants.
John- I agree that chapter 12 seems like happily ever after but there could still be things going on after the marriage like divorce, kids, new jobs, things like that so there could be more things happening after marriage.
NickC- Does Amir really love his wife? I don't think that Amir loves his wife but eventually will. I think he married her so that Baba could have been there for it and he also gets along with her really well so he knows he can always be around her.
-Yanni I don't think Amir shares his secret, because if he brings it up again he is going to feel regret and he is going to feel like he should have done something and he doesn't want his wife to know that he watched his "friend" get rapped because she might look at him different.
I think Baba is more proud of him now because Amir is the only one he has left. He used to fawn on Hassan and Assef but now that they're gone, he has to make do with the "other one"
Zach K - "why would amir hold what he saw happen in and never tell someone?"
Great question. I believe that Amir won't open up to anyone anytime soon about what happened in his past. Amir's past has been haunting him since he was young and he feels like if he opens up to anyone, that they will hate him. Amir could be seen as a monster in people's eyes if they don't understand how he feels about it now. Amir is still torn apart from his past in Kabul and he isn't ready to share that past, not now.
Nick, I agree with JD, if someone does love someone they are comfortable with telling them almost anything. And Amir is doing the opposite. Amir hides all his problems. He wanted to believe that Baba could watch him grow up, so he wanted to get married and he skipped the step of actually finding love.
- Ethan H I too think that his life would be different but i don't know if he would be angry that they didn't have a very good relationship or if he would be sad for a long time.
Ty B- I think Baba refuses help because he wants to appear strong. He has always been a leader, it would be to strange for him to accept he needed someone else's help. It's just not who he is.
-Alec I think that Amir holds on to his secret because if he tells someone, everyone is going to look at him different and think bad things about him. Also, if he told his wife, I don't think that she would want to be his wife anymore because who would want a husband that just watches your "friend" get rapped?
I feel like amir feels more re leaved that he is here in America and doesnt always think about his past and he feels more comfortable here and not as bad or worried about what happened.
how would Amir's life be different if Baba suddenly died
i think Amir might realize how his dad made a name for himself and see how he helped alot of people and i think it will stir some things up between Amir and Soraya.
I agree with Adam. Baba has always been a specimen of strength and nobility. For him to appear to be fighting a disease and losing would be unacceptable. He has too much honor.
Baba is very proud of His son and was actually excited when he went to talk to Soraya and her dad becuase Amir is an adult now and is going to get married.
I agree with John and Adam in the fact the Baba is so strong and has been through so much that for him to be losing this war against disease that its not right it doesn't that this should happen to him he has been so strong for him to go down now would just be not a good way for him to go.
-Zach H If Baba suddenly died, I think that Amir's life would be different because it would be so sudden, it would shock Amir and he would take it hard. He would take it hard because Baba was his Dad. I mean if my Dad died, my life would be totally different."
I like this response Ethan and the question Zach H but heres a question for you Ethan, do you share a similar relationship between you and your dad as Amir and Baba do? I think Amir would be hit hard with the loss of his father but I think he won't be totally different. I believe Amir would be more devastated that they weren't as close as they could be before he passed away rather than the actual loss of Baba. They aren't really close and they struggled to bond, I believe Amir will handle it well especially from the experience of his past.
-Alec I also think that Baba is proud of Amir, because like you said he finally made a decision on his own and his willing to have a family. I just wonder if Amir is mature enough to take on the roll of a Dad and have a family?
Zach H- Overall I think that Amir and Baba's life was better in Afghanistan. Afghanis have many cultural and social norms in their society and they had a better house and better car and more people they knew. In America, they live in a tiny appartment with people they don't know. It's at the very least a culture shock. They're out of their comfort zone.
Zach H I think that weather is used to symbolizes things in certain parts of the book, however when it snowed earlier in the book it was a happy time. The weather defiantly can symbolized a negative mood and bad events.
Ty B. "Why do you think Baba refuses to get treatment for lung cancer?"
That is a good question. I think that Baba knows that he does not have much time left in his life, and that he thinks if he gets treatment for it, it wouldn't save him that much of his life. Also I feel like he kind of wants to save his money for Amir and Soraya.
Zach H- I believe Amir and Baba's lives were better in Afghanistan, yet it was ruined so they had to move some where else. In Afghanistan, they were rich, famous, and had amazing friends. After the Kite Running tournament, however, it slowly began to unwind until it was not fit to live in anymore, from internal and external conflicts. So they moved to America, where while it wasn't better than their past lives, it was at least good enough to live in.
SeanD- I don't think that Amir and Hassan ever meet again. It says earlier in the book that " that was the last time i saw that smile, except for a blurry polaroid 26 years later." This tells me that Hassan is gone for good.
-David I agree with what you said because my Dad and I don't share the same relationship that Amir shares with Baba, because my Dad has helped me throughout my whole soccer career and has been there for me for my whole life. Baba didn't do any of these things for Amir.
I like what Tommy S and Logan are discussing about how that now that he is working in America he can't just get money from working hard once a week in Afghanistan and get money to live and not work for a little now in America he has to work every day and get money at the end of the week or to weeks so he really has to work hard now to keep a living in America for him to survive.
Why do you think that Amir didn't tell Soroya what haunted him?
I think Amir doesn't tell Soraya because he is trying to get past what had happened and he is ashamed that he didn't do anything to stop what had happened. I also think that Amir thinks Soraya would be mad or would leave or see him differently because he didn't help Hassan
David- I also have no relationship with my father. If he died, it really wouldn't affect me at all. It's somewhat the same with Amir and Baba. Baba is physically there for Amir but he doesn't really care for him.
In afghanistan Baba and Amir had a good life, a big house and were wealthy. atahe problem in Afghanistan was that it was getting dangerous to the point that they could not live there any longer. In America it is much safer and is very multi-cultural. Even though they are at the very bottom with not much money, Amir could accomplish the American dream and help his dad.
Zach H- Was Baba's and Amir's life better in Afganistan or is it better in America? There life was better in Afghanistan up until Hassan and Ali left. With Hassan and Ali they didn't have to worry about anything and everyone trusted everyone. After Hassan and Ali left they couldn't trust any of their servants for fear of getting turned in. In America they have to work for everything and I love the fact that Baba wants to work for everything and wants to get that sense of accomplishment. The downfall of America for them is that they almost know everyone around them but the American standards of checking for I.D. they can't handle.
Was Baba's and Amir's life better in Afganistan or is it better in America?
I think Baba's life was better in Afghanistan because he had money, he was well known, and he had no cancer.
On the other hand I think Amir is better off in America because he got a high school education, he has love, and he is father away from Kabul and his haunting memories.
I agree with what David said: "I think Amir would be hit hard with the loss of his father but I think he won't be totally different. I believe Amir would be more devastated that they weren't as close as they could be before he passed away rather than the actual loss of Baba. They aren't really close and they struggled to bond, I believe Amir will handle it well especially from the experience of his past." The real pain of losing someone is "Did I make myself worth it? Did I try hard enough?" and he may be wondering if he has actually tried and made the effort to get to know his father
Zack K-in Afghanistan Baba could do anything he wanted and now in America he has to work for everything why dose that affect him?
Well i think it affects hi because he is like not use to the way we do things here. Its so much more different here than it is in Afghanistan. Here its not right to have alot of wives and be mean to woman. Over there they think men first and here we usually think woman first.
I agree with you in what you said in response to "Why do you think that Amir didn't tell Soroya what haunted him?" I also think that he wants to get over what happened on that winter day. he is still thinking about what happened because he always has flashbacks to his childhood.
I think that if Amir lost Baba his life would be way different. He loves his dad a lot more then he did at the beginning of the book because he finally has developed a good relationship with him, and he realizes that his Baba is happy and proud of him. But at the same time I think if he lost Baba it would take a weight off of his shoulders, because he has to take care of Baba a lot and he has to get him out of bad situations, like when he was in the store, and when he was arguing with the Russian soldiers.
Zach H- "Was Baba's and Amir's life better in Afganistan or is it better in America?"
Baba's life was better for him in Afghanistan but Amir's belongs in America. Baba was a hero in Afghanistan but a in America he is a John Doe. Everyone would agree that you rather be a hero than a average guy. Amir didn't have a good past in Kabul but now that he obtains a second chance in America, he takes full advantage of that.
-Tommy Even though Amir didn't get along with Baba, I think that their life was better in Afghanistan because they had a big house, money, and lived in a good neighborhood. Also, I know that Amir didn't have a relationship with Baba, at least Hassan cared for him. At least Hassan wanted to play with him and be his friend.
I like lanes comment about how now that Amir is going away Baba is going to try to make an effort to be there for Amir as much as he can before he is gone.
I disagree. I think in the past couple chapters Baba and Amir have grown close, especially since entering America, and i think that he will be devastated by the loss. True, he does have a wife now, but that doesnt make up for a fathers love, and so i think that he will miss Baba very much.

I think that something bad will happen between Soraya and Amir. I also think that Hassan and Amir will meet up again another time in the book.
